Wi-Fi 6E is the newest wireless technology and provides wireless device users with greater capacity, more capable channels, and less interference. In FY23, the Enterprise Technology & Services (ET&S) Network team upgraded wireless access points at Plymouth State University (PSU) and the University of New Hampshire (UNH) to Wi-Fi 6E technology to improve the overall wireless experience for students, faculty, staff, and guests. The newer technologies will help expedite data transmissions and introduce the new 6GHz radio frequency.
For PSU, this is a total campus refresh and will represent a two-generation improvement in wireless technology from their current 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) to Wi-Fi 6E. This project will impact the entire PSU campus (about 1200 access points) and the southwest section of the UNH campus (about 1050 access points). Users with 6GHZ capable devices can use this modern, cleaner radio spectrum, which frees up radio airspace for older devices. ET&S started this project in 2022 and will finish over the summer.
