Update on Survey Software Options
To Know: After a comprehensive evaluation of the existing and future survey requirements at USNH, including an analysis of survey platforms used in higher education and a cost assessment, USNH has decided to continue utilizing Qualtrics with a limited number of annual survey responses paired with Microsoft Forms, which allows for unlimited survey responses. This approach is designed to balance costs while offering users the necessary functionality and collaboration features.

For individuals who do not need advanced data analysis or complex survey logic, Microsoft Forms offers a straightforward and user-friendly option. Users are encouraged to use Microsoft Forms for basic surveying needs to help USNH manage its resources effectively, thereby reserving Qualtrics for more complex data collection and analysis tasks.

Reminder: Update to Settings in Canvas Discussions
To Know: Canvas recently updated Discussions in August 2024 to include an option to disallow threaded replies. When enabled, students will not be able to reply to other students’ posts within a discussion.

This update may have affected some existing discussions due to differences in managing new and legacy discussions. As a result, Canvas may have automatically enabled the “Disallow Threaded Replies” setting to preexisting discussions.

To Do: At this time, we recommend checking the discussion settings in your active courses and master course shells to verify that the “Disallow Threaded Replies” option is not enabled for discussions where students need to reply to each other’s posts. See the Canvas Threaded Discussions KB article for more information.
