Update as of 2:00 PM Friday, July 19, 2024

ET&S is continuing to address the issues from the global service outage impacting windows devices. We ask employees to be vigilant in reviewing communications related to this incident—we have observed an uptick in phishing scams related to this outage. We also have several hundred more computers to repair as users contact us and ask for your continued patience as we prioritize this effort.

For users who continue to get a ‘blue screen’ upon turning on their windows computer/PC there are now multiple options to remediate this issue including new options for employees who cannot come to a campus.

  1. Attempt computer restart: In some cases, restarting the computer up to 15 times will fix the problem.
  2. Receive help from ET&S on campus: In all cases ET&S technicians are available to provide manual fixes at our campus operating locations listed at the bottom of this message.
  3. Work with an ET&S technician remotely: Users wishing to work with an ET&S Technician remotely can submit a request using this form: https://td.usnh.edu/TDClient/60/Portal/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=202 and a technician will call back. This will be a first-come, first-served service as technicians work through the high number of users needing support.
  4. Self remediation: Users who wish to self-remediate can use these instructions: https://td.usnh.edu/TDClient/60/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=4960

NOTE – Some users may not see the exact options listed in the instructions or self-remediation may not work with some computers.  In the event this option doesn’t work, users will need to come to a campus location or use option 3.

The following is a list of campus operating locations (affected System Office employees can visit the closest campus location). Currently there is only a small wait time for walk-in services at these locations:

  • KSC: Elliot Hall, Rm. 243
  • PSU: HUB, Rm. 123
  • UNH-Durham: Dimond Library, Rm. 341

As of 9:00 AM Friday, July 19, 2024

On Friday, July 19, Enterprise Technology & Services reported a major issue and service outage affecting systems worldwide. This was caused by a bad patch from the CrowdStrike security software. The outage impacts PC-based devices; it does not affect Apple or Linux-based computer devices, or mobile phones. The common symptom is getting a ‘blue screen’ upon turning on the device. In some cases, restarting the computer will fix the problem.

Crowdstrike has yet to deploy a patch that automatically remediates currently affected systems. At this time, this issue cannot be remediated remotely; this will require a manual fix on affected systems.

ET&S technicians are available to provide manual fixes at our campus operating locations. The following is a list of campus operating locations (affected System Office employees can visit the closest campus location):

  • KSC: Elliot Hall, rm. 243
