Esports, commonly known as electronic sports, is a competitive form of gaming that involves organized, multiplayer video game contests, often between professional players and teams. This industry spans various game genres and has experienced rapid growth, fostering a unique culture, dedicated training routines, and specialized venues for hosting events.
The Keene State College Owls eSports team is a varsity-level squad with five coaches and nineteen athletes, and is the first of its kind at the University System of New Hampshire. In its inaugural season, The Owls competed against other colleges and universities in eSports and made it to the semi-finals this year in their division.
During the 2023-2024 winter break, Enterprise Technology & Services (ET&S) consulted Keene State College on an initiative to turn an existing classroom into an eSports facility. ET&S donated time, materials, and consulted on component purchasing to help move this project from a vision into a reality.
