“Creating a proactive cybersecurity strategy ensures that the organization does not depend only on reactive security measures. A proactive defense strategy, when combined with reactive security, supplements the reactive security measures to reduce overall risk to the organization.” -ThreatIntelligence.com

In FY23, the University System of New Hampshire (USNH) Cyber Operations team participated in an exercise and created a playbook to prepare for cyber attacks proactively.

Over the last year, Cyber Ops developed a playbook to build repeatable processes and document worst-case scenarios and incidents. In January 2023, Cyber Ops leveraged this playbook during a four-day tabletop (TTX) exercise on Ransomware, a type of malicious software designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid (Dictionary.com). This exercise helped validate and correct the playbook and procedures should an attack occur.
