To Know: This October, Granite State College recognizes Cybersecurity Awareness Month and offers free training and awareness events for students, faculty, and staff. This year, ET&S Cybersecurity will present 12 different sessions. We will reveal the sessions a week at a time, or you can view a complete list here. For every session you attend, you will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win an iPad Mini or one of five Amazon gift cards.

The Path to a Cybersecurity Career

Tom Nudd, Chief Information Security Officer, will provide an in-depth look at careers in Cybersecurity. Participants will learn about the different career paths in IT security and the kind of degree programs and qualifications required. ICS/OT Cybersecurity: Malware Threats Examined & Explained

Join Dragos ICS/OT experts Sam Hanson and Markus Mueller as they discuss the background on major operational technology (OT) cybersecurity threats, the latest research on the PIPEDREAM malware and a PLC password cracker, and how to significantly reduce the likelihood or impact of opportunistic IT-focused events.

Security Challenges in Advanced Manufacturing
Thurs., October 6 | 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Qiaoyan Yu, Ph.D., Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will provide an overview of cybersecurity challenges in Advanced Manufacturing. This talk will introduce the emerging security attacks in the manufacturing environment. Selective examples will be used to demonstrate the physical attacks, which are conducted remotely or locally. Existing countermeasures will be introduced as well to address the security changes. This is a high-level introduction for audiences at all levels of the University.

Boss of the SOC (BOTS)
Thurs., October 13 | 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
In this Capture-the-Flag style workshop limited to 150 participants, contestants play the part of a Security Operations Center (SOC) analyst to solve a series of realistic security challenges. Participants will use the leading cybersecurity technology provided by Splunk to answer these questions as quickly and accurately as possible. The contestant with the most points at the end of the competition wins. No previous experience is required, but if you’d like to hone your skills, go here.
