In spring 2020, Enterprise Technology & Services (ET&S) supported the third pilot for the myWildcat Success Early Alert program, which is designed to help at-risk students and increase student retention. Progress reports are vital indicators of student performance and are traditionally required in the eighth week of each term for all first-year students. This data takes almost two weeks to complete and it is difficult to help students change their performance so late in the term.

To better support students struggling in their courses, in the spring of 2019 Enterprise Technology & Services and the Provost’s office developed the Early Alert program, which initiates progress reports in week five, allowing more time for students to get help and improve their performance. Faculty submit progress reports using the myWildcat Success (EAB Navigate) application, which instantly notifies students and advisors of faculty concerns and tracks student follow-up.

The second phase of the Early Alert pilot occurred in fall 2019 when 620 first-year students (20%) who participated were flagged as ‘at-risk’ of failing at least one course. Nearly all students (99%) returned for the spring term.

This project supports the president's strategic priority on student success and helps UNH serve students who might need extra assistance to meet their academic goals.
