Dear Student:

Your 1098-T form is available to pick up electronically.  1098-T forms are used to determine your eligibility for claiming the Education Tax Credits on your Federal Income Tax returns.

University of New Hampshire is unable to provide you with individual tax advice, but should you have questions, you should seek the counsel of an informed tax preparer or adviser. You are responsible for eligibility and calculation of a tuition tax credit.  Room, board, student health insurance and miscellaneous fees are not IRS eligible expenses.  Figure shown in Box 1 of your 1098T for 2020, reflects only 2020 payments less refunds which have applied toward eligible tuition and fee expenses.

To retrieve your 1098-T electronically: - Go to: <URL removed> (note: Internet Explorer 9 users may need to use “Compatibility View”) - Log in if you have an account or Click the “First Time Students” Button. - Enter your full First and Last names and the last 5 digits of your Social Security Number. - Click Submit. - If records are present for you, you will be instructed to create an account. Follow the instructions on the website to create a free account and retrieve your 1098-T. If records are not found for you or you have difficulty creating account, use the “Help” link in the left menu. Paper 1098T forms will be mailed to your permanent mailing address by the end of January.

Depending on your income (or your family’s income, if you are a dependent), whether you were considered full or half-time enrolled, and the amount of your qualified educational expenses for the year, you may be eligible for a federal education tax credit. (You can find detailed information about claiming education tax credits in IRS Publication 970.) IRS website <URL removed> provides information concerning the Educational Tax Credits available. The dollar amounts reported on your Form 1098-T may assist you in completing IRS Form 8863 ( <URL removed>) – the form used for calculating the education tax credits that a taxpayer may claim as part of your tax return.

If you have questions, please contact UNH Business Services at (603) 862-2230 Monday-Friday 9:00-4:00 or email us at: <URL removed>
