Mount Washington is a towering figure in the Northeastern United States, reaching an elevation of 6,288.2 feet, making it the most prominent peak east of the Mississippi River. Since 1868, The Cog Railway has been a historic mode of transport, offering visitors a unique journey to the summit of this majestic mountain.
In the spring of 2023, Enterprise Technology & Services (ET&S) was approached by The Cog's representatives with a visionary project: to create a mobile application that would enrich the visitors' experience. The goal was to craft an interactive platform to educate passengers about Mount Washington and The Cog and enhance their journey with real-time features.
The dedicated team at ET&S embarked on this ambitious project, meticulously designing an app that would serve as a digital companion for passengers. The app boasts a suite of features, including a live altitude display, detailed information on ongoing research projects, interactive maps for exploration, and a social component allowing photo sharing. ET&S integrated practical day-of functionalities such as a ticket purchasing link and up-to-the-minute weather updates at the summit.
The project was completed in the fall of 2023, marking a significant milestone that aligns with the UNH President's strategic priority of "Embrace NH." This mobile app stands as a testament to the innovative spirit of ET&S and serves as a valuable resource for New Hampshire residents and visitors to The Cog Railway.
