RONIN is a research-oriented cloud management platform. It gives researchers an easy method for managing their computing, storage, backups, and High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. Additionally, RONIN provides grant budget management, monitors resource usage, and helps PIs stay on top of their cloud billing. RONIN and AWS cloud services complement our local infrastructure, providing researchers with multiple avenues for performing their computational analysis depending on their needs.

The Enterprise Technology & Services Software Development team implemented RONIN in FY23 to provide a University System of New Hampshire (USNH) managed method for researchers to access cloud-based services for their research. Before the RONIN implementation, obtaining AWS cloud resources were often complex and confusing and slowed the research process for some while barring entry for others. To mitigate this issue, ET&S selected a platform that focused on allowing researchers to use and monitor cloud resources easily.

ET&S officially launched RONIN, which multiple researchers already use. The University of New Hampshire is an R1 institution, which puts it at the forefront of research and innovation and receives federal and private funding for its research, making it critical to have a robust infrastructure supporting computing in research. With that said, this implementation benefits researchers across USNH.
