The Associate Vice Chancellor for Government Affairs is responsible, at the direction of the Chancellor, for developing, directing and executing the government relations programs of the Trustees of the University System of New Hampshire.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist institutions with hosting elected officials from state and federal government at events at the institutions in order to further relationships and cooperation between all.
- Assist with the creation of - and advocacy for - the USNH operating and capital budget requests for state support.
- Identify and monitor proposed legislation and developing issues in the public sector which could affect the University System.
- Coordinate communications and personal contacts by the Chancellor and University System Trustees with elected or appointed officials.
- Work in close association with all System departments, especially Finance, on matters of concern in the Legislature, Governor’s Office and various federal/state agencies.
- Coordinate the Council for Government Affairs (CGA) to ensure that each USNH institution is regularly updated on pending legislation and is provided with ample opportunity to participate in the legislative process.
- Report to Trustee Executive, External Affairs Committees as needed and to the President’s Council monthly.
- Coordinate and assist with preparation of testimony at hearings in Concord.
- Work with Chancellor and team to define key messages surrounding legislative issues and assist with the dissemination of materials pertaining to same.
- Coordinate the University of New Hampshire Senate Intern Program with faculty and Senate staff.
- Attend fundraisers, dinners, funerals, send holiday cards and do whatever else is appropriate that will further the University System’s good standing with politicians, their staffs and various opinion leaders.
- Handle arrangements for Trustees and special guests to attend campus sporting and cultural events.
